give us some wind and clouds. had our first official snowflakes of the season yesterday at reagan national. no accumulation and you can see things are quieting down here. not a lot going o we got a little bit of a shower there to the south and east of washington down east of waldorf and across the bay. it will be breezy and quite cool with highs topping out the low 50s. still on the cool side for early november here. all right. currently, we are in the upper 30s and low 40s. i'll have more in just a minute. back to you. >> thank you. more bad news and bad weather for people in new york and new jersey still dealing

with superstorm sandy. >> a nor'easter hitting the area hard again with snow, rain and high linds of david lee miller has the latest from long beach, new york this morning ro. are by mid afternoon, the wind had picked up -- and high winds. >> david lee miller has the latest from long beach, new york this morning. >> reporter: by mid afternoon, the win had picked up. the storm moving its way up the atlantic coast is expected to bring rain and wet snow to new jersey and new york. more than half a million people are still without power following last week's storm. now, there is fear that number will rise. new york mayor michael bloomberg warned those without power to be cautious how they heat their homes. >> if you remain in your home, please do not use gas ranges or

ovens to stay warm. that is not only a serious fire hazard, the fumes it releases can kill you. >> reporter: federal officials are helping thousands left homeless by the first storm but despite the risks caused by the nor'easter, there are still those who refuse to be evacuated. >> i don't think there is any more fears. this is it. this is it. i get anxiety walking around thinking what i'm going to do. and other people too, i feel bad for other people. this is crazy, you know. i don't know what to do anymore. i don't want to live in long beach. >> reporter: new jersey governor chris christie said when told about the second storm, he wondered what is next, locusts are pestilence. david lee miller, fox news.

former democratic congresswoman gabrielle giffords will likely come face to face with the man who shot her in the head. she and her husband are expected to attend the sentencing for jared loughner. in virginia, the so high pressure called east coast rapist is scheduled to enter a guilty plea. aaron thomas is scheduled for a plea hearing november 30th in leesburg. he is charged with raping a 41- year-old woman in 2001. thomas was arrested in 2011 in his home state of connecticut accused of 17 sexual assaults in maryland, virginia, connecticut and rhode island. a plunge in u.s. markets that continues overseas this morning. the dow lost over 300 points in new york or more than 2% in its worst day of the year. japan's nikkei dropped 136 points overnight. the hong kong market is off more than 500 points.

that is almost 2.5% n europe, all markets are dropping this morning. we still have plenty ahead, your weather, traffic and all your top stories. >> fox 5 morning news at 4:30 starts now. all right. happy thursday. it is november 8th, 2012. live look outside right now at the washington monument. a couple of sprinkles on the car when i was driving in. i don't know whether that was from overnight or whether it was sprinkling when i walked outside. just in a daze. >> we'll be glad whether this nor'easter moves out because tens of thousands of people in new york and new jersey are back in the dark this morning. another powerful storm whipped through the area. it started yesterday bringing heavy wet snow winds. more than 1,000 flights were canceled in and out of new york but no mandatory evacuations have been issued there. let's get the latest now on the weather. it has moved out of here or we

kind of escaped a lot of it. >> mostly. we were on the west side of it. we did have some snowflake here in washington last night. just a trace of snow last night at reagan national. so much of the area saw something. then some rain showers but we are winding things down and we'll be looking at sunshine latter on today. 42 at reagan national. 41 at dulles. 41 at bwi marshall. it is cold out there when you mix in the winds. there is the big picture and things winding down up in new york, new jersey as well after several inches of the white stuff up there. you can see the cloud cover. it will be breezy and cool with high temperatures topping out the low 50s. but with some sunshine later today, it should at least look a little better outside we should be dry. we picked up a little bit of rain or snow overnight.

appears the staff is actually familiar with the suspect. as you said, it was just before 9:00 tuesday evening. the staff was getting ready to close thomas jefferson library for the night. they heard a girl scream. it was a 17-year-old student in the woman's bathroom. she said she had been touched and pushed by a man who followed her in there. she said she noticed the guy staring at her. when she got up to leave, she noticed the man follow her. >> this person followed her into the bathroom. he then grabbed her and assaulted her. she did fight back and she screamed and then he fled. >> usually, it is really safe here so it was surprising to see that happen. there are some types of people that you do have to watch out for. >> reporter: library staff told fairfax county police they had seep the man in the library

several time before but never had any trouble from him. because they are familiar with him, police say they have a pretty good description of what he looks like. he is black, medium brown complexion ranging between 5' 7" and 5' 10" weighing between 160 and 108 pounds, shaven bald head, brown eyes, a gap in his front teeth with a diagonal scar on his forehead. they say he was wearing a pale green long sleeved shirt, khaki pants and he care idea a brown or tan soft leather briefcase and fairfax county police think that is a pretty good description and because the library staff are familiar with that person, i think they have a pretty good idea. they want to know his name and might be able to find him. anyone with information is being urged to contact fairfax county police. in prince george's county,

police are investigating a shooting that killed a man in hillcrest heights. this happened on the 23rd parkway around 9:00 last night. police were responding to a report of gunshots when they found the man lying in the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. he tied on the way to the hospital. the victim has not been identified and we have no word on the suspect or motive right now. well, even though he is weeks away from being inaugurated to his second term, the president has his plate full. fox's ainsley earhart explains. >> reporter: a day vieded congress plus a re-elected president obama could equal financial turmoil. the three major indices plunged due to concerns over the looming fiscal uncertainty.

>> there is still an an elevated level of uncertainty related to politics that markets must deal w. >> reporter: john boehner says he is open to making a deal with the president to put the finances in order. >> republicans have signaled a willingness to accept new revenue if it comes from growth and reform. so let's start the discussion. >> reporter: one political analyst says the republicans' willingness to come to terms on a deal woo be the result of public pressure. >> it does mean that they have to worry about running afoul of public opinion at their per ill, having just suffered a loss. >> reporter: domestic issues aside, the ability of the two sides to reach an agreement may have an impact on foreign affairs. >> the inability to strike an agreement that is serious, that is long term, that restores confidence in the fiscal situation of the united states, i think it actually weakens his hand on every foreign policy issue. >> reporter: the president must also apoint a new secretary of state and treasury secretary. both hillary clinton and

timothy good nighter in are not expected to return for the president's second term. in new york, ainsley earhart, fox news. a huge selloff in the dow extended to asian and european markets this morning. dow plunged 312 points after worries about that so-called fiscal cliff. japan's market falling more than 130 and the hong kong stock market fell 533 points early this morning. coming up, police going undercover in our area to catch a man attacking women. we'll have details on that story next. new this morning, not one but two strong earthquakes including the worst to hit one area in decades. stay with us. we'll be back. 

a couple of earthquakes rocked the western hemisphere a at least 48 people tied in the worst earthquake to hit guatemala in 36 years. another hundred are still missing in the rubble and the

number of dead is expected to go up. quake was a powerful 7.4 and hit off the west coast of guatemala. it was also felt in mexico city and early this morning a strong 6.3 struck off canada's pacific coast but so far, no reports of dam and no tsunami warnings. prince george's county police are searching for two men who robbed two others ate chillum atm. police say the men stole a semiautomatic weapon and stole the victim's wallet and car keys. surveillance cameras captured some of the robberies. these are the photos of the suspect on your screen right now. if you know the men or know anything about the robbery, bridge county police want to hear from you. police in fairfax county are asking for your help in tracking down a serial fondler. each time the man fondels his victims, he then take off. here is a sketch of the suspect. he is described as hispanic with a medium build, black hear and wearing a red cap during many of the attacks.

police say nine women have reported assaults by a man matching this description in the sketch. the latest case made public yesterday by police. if you have any information, fairfax county police want to you give them a call. coming up being people living up north wonder how much more can they take this morning. first, sandy, now a nasty nor'easter that is really packing snow. coming up next, even the d.c. united are feeling the hit. we'll get the latest on the situation up north plus tucker is checking our weather and julie has traffic. fox 5 morning news continues. ♪

welcome back. this is a live look outside at the u.s. capitol dome. tucker says we've got some snow in some of the areas, some snow flurries around in this area. a lot worse up north. nor'easter slammed the mid- atlantic states and new england and the bringing in snow and more power outages inform massachusetts, there were car crashes on nearly every street in one town as the bay state got 4 inches of snow. in new york, 60,000 people who just got their power back on after last week's storms are once again in the dark this morning. d.c. united got a taste of

the nor'easter too. they hit the field for the play offgame with the red bulls in northern new jersey last night you were heavy snowfall. look at that snow. crews tried their best to clear the field but officials eventually canceled the game after about an hour. they will try to get the game in tonight at 7:30. the weather is expected to be clear and warmer there. >> can you call in sick from a soccer game. >> : i don't think they should try. maryland also could be feeling the effects of the nor'easter. officials warn residents of moderate flooding in the downtown area of ocean city but say the flooding will not be as bad as it was during the superstorm sandy. i'm assuming that was superstorm sandy video. >> a lot of weather talk this morning. >> they got about 4 inches at jfk airport and 6 at newark. i'm sure there will be additional travel delays. >> and the people that got

their power back on and now they are back in the dark again. >> as unusual as the superstorm was, very unusual to be getting such heavy snow in early november too. >> what is going on? >> more on that later. let's get to our weather. we sort of dodged the worst of this one as it was just off to the north and east but we got a little taste it was as wisdom mentioned. we got officially a trace of snow at reagan national. 4 # now in washington. it is cool across the region. 36 this morning in leonardtown. 36 in frederick. 38 in martinsburg. -- 42 now in washington. 45 in fredericksburg. chilly temperature to start your day. we'll top out the low 50s today. it will feel better than yesterday. yesterday, we were only in the mid-50s. still cool for this time of year and you mix in some winds which will be gusting aat about 15 to 20 during the course of the day. it will feel cooler than

temperatures in the 50s. right now, the wind out of the north and west at about 12 here in washington. 17 in quantico. you get the idea here and they will be gusting at about 15 to 20 later today. it will be a very breezy day along with improving conditions. i think we'll see some sunshine around here by afternoon. satellite-radar, check out this -- this is just amazing. look at that center of the nor'easter right. this almost taking on the characteristics of a tropical storm. you can see it throwing back the moisture into new york and southern new england, parts of connecticut picking up to a foot of snow. i mentioned the snow at jfk and in newark. we were cooped of on -- kind of on the back edge of that. we will see the storm push off to the north and east. clearing skies, breezy and cool. 53 your daytime high. there are your winds 10 to 15 gusting to 20. cheer and cold tonight.

beltway is running smoothly between college park and bethesda. here we are live eastbound 66 working in from 123. that's a check of your fox 5 on-timetraffic. imetraffic. airline travel will be very busy this thanksgiving. nearly 24 million people are expected to fly between november 16th and november 27th. that is up from last year. and planes are expected to be close to 90% full. i'm surprised it is not 100% full. >> i know. too much going on. metro is already making plans for the presidential inauguration. commemorative inaugural smartrip cards are now on sale. metro rider can buy the new cards at metro sales offices, metro cent are and pentagon stations and also at metro's headquarters in northwest. the national park service and metro are trying to make fort totten park safer. they've installed two lights on a shortcut path between the metro station and the ward 5 neighborhood. the lights are thought to be a
